On 7 September 2023, the Polar Connection Vision 2030 webinars delved deeper into the latest insights shaping the future of one of the four sections of the European Data Gateways, namely the North Atlantic and Arctic section.
Highlights from the webinars include exploration of arguments underpinning the necessity for a resilient submarine cable system in the Arctic Ocean, and the actual feasibility of this ambitious endeavour.
You are cordially invited to attend the Polar Connection Vision 2030 webinar where you will get exclusive insights into the future of one of the four sections of the European Data Gateways, viz. the North Atlantic and Arctic section.
The webinar will showcase why there is a need for a submarine cable system in the Arctic Ocean and its feasibility. Likewise, the distinguished speakers will illustrate how the Arctic route will improve and secure backbone connectivity for Europe and our partners in Asia, and at the same time also specify the benefits such a route will bring to the scientific community.
For your convenience we offer two time slots where you can attend the webinar:
The Northern EU Gateways project has given boost to the Polar Connect initiative by allowing to investigate the shorter route options for subsea cables through the Arctic Ocean. Polar Connect is the effort led by NORDUnet to catalyse the establishment of resilient connectivity through the Arctic to Asia (Japan) and North America for the Research, Development, Innovation (RDI), and Education sectors. These submarine cable systems will bring not only resilience to the network, but will also mitigate digital congestion, improve sustainability, and induce economic benefits to the Nordic region.
